What is your analysis of President Obama's State of the Union address? What were the strong points? What were the Weak points? Did this address help you to feel comfortable or uncomfortable about the state of the union?

  1. No doubt that Obama is a great speaker, but this was more a campaign speech than a state of the union address. He sandwiched the failures of his presidency and plans for the future with nationalism and his successes while distancing himself from the true source of the problem--congress. His plans for education seemed unrealistic and idyllic. To spend more money on schools would be to perpetuate a system that doesn't work.

My analysis of Obama's speech has many different opinions. First of all, I believe that he has not changed much since he has become president. By entitling himself with all of the new plans he has stated in the State of Union address, he is just proving that he wants to try over again. He has made me feel uncomfortable of him re-running for President again. A strong point he covered was that he did foil Osama bin Laden and his terrorist intentions. What I do like about Obama is that he makes me feel safer in the US. A weak point he covered is his tax plans. He wants to tax the richer and personally that is not fair to people that have earned their money. Instead he should find a solution to persuade the rich people to do good on their own. Obama needs to find better answers if he wants to remain President.

  3. I think that Obama is a great speaker and this speech to me wasn't really a state of the union address, it felt more like a campaign. I think one of the strongest points he covered was the fact that under his term he did kill Osama bin Laden which is a huge achievement. he pushes policies that have failed middle class taxpayers across America. Obama said his health care plan would lower health care costs

  4. Obama has his way of speaking that is able to both stir up the public and express his opinions powerfully. He was able to analyze certain things that could possibly get him reelected, since they are indeed hot topics. Most of his speech seemed to be more of a campaigning speech mixed in with the actual State of the Union speech itself. Yeah, he killed Osama Bin Laden, and yes he has attempted certain policies that have hurt many classes of wealth, however he is ever-evolving, opting to both revise and fix his mistakes. The State of the Union. honestly, never really makes me feel comfortable nor uncomfortable, however, I think he did a good job in convincing the public that he does have things under control, and anything that may seem chaotic, he will soon fix.

  5. I don't think President Obama's speech really addressed the state of our union. It was definitely a campaign speech, which is typical for an election year. I think that he stayed toward the moderate side of his policies, and didn't try and reach for the extreme vote. He mostly talked about his accomplishments and what he wants to do in the future, but he didn't actually talk about what is currently going on. President Obama is obviously a great speaker, but I thought this State of the Union Address was predictable and a campaign speech.

  6. I found Obama speech to be well spoken but long and boring at times. It was more of a campaign speech that a State of the Union, but that is common with the election coming up. Obamas' strong points include the death of Osama Bin Laden and the unemployment rate decrease and the fact the it is continuing to decrease. His weak points were that in his speech was supposedly going to continue to create jobs he did not include actual specifics. The speech was to broad at some points. Obama does have the ability in his speeches to make people feel hopeful and comfortable and that is something that is very admirable in all his speeches.

  7. I liked President Obama's State of the Union Address. I feel that he is a very elloquent speaker and I find that he always leaves me feeling hopeful on his promises. I really liked what he had to say about education and getting more funding for schools. However, I also feel like this is always said and nothing really changes. I don't really care for his immigration policy. Over all though, I really enjoyed listening to him speak.

  8. I believe Obama's State of the Union Address was very long and impressive in that he can talk so well for so long. Other then the words that he was saying it was done wonderfully. I do not agree with most of the points that he made during the speech such as the tax cuts and his views on education. He laid out all of his positive achievements that he had accomplished in the past few years and was telling what he would like to do in the future. If he made all of these statements on what needs to be improved why didn't he change or apply anything that he had just said. I don't think his achievements were very spectacular and the most memorable "achievement" was killing Osama Bin Laden. I feel this was just a way to win people over when he runs for reelection and to say what he wants to do in the years of reelection. It made me feel comfortable because he sugar coated everything and really the state of the union isn't as great as he said it was. It was a well written speech and definitely had people listening and gave them something to think about.

  9. Obama’s State of The Union speech was his attempt to bring back to the national stage the Obama of 2008 that brimmed with optimism and hope. He showed the nation the side of him that was the campaigner who won so many hearts, minds, and votes by speaking about hope, fairness, and the fact that he was best suited to meet the challenges that lay ahead of us. Obama went out of his way to highlight the wealth and tax inequities that are facing the nation and that are certainly in the headlines as Mitt Romney has reluctantly released his tax returns. Extra points in driving home his point were certainly made by having Warren Buffett’s secretary in the audience. A secretary, mind you, that pays a lower tax rate than Mr. Buffet himself. President Obama spent a good portion of the speech outlining the themes and issues that will be at the center of his coming re-election bid. I will give him high marks in terms of getting out in front of a lot of these points and even going so far as to challenge the Congress to put specific bills on the table for him to sign. He had many good points and I believe it was a well written speech that caught the ear of many.

  10. I think Obama is one of the best speakers I've ever listened to. The way he presented his points made me feel good about where we stand as a country. I liked his goals and statements about bringing home the troops and the fight against the national debt. It almost felt as if his state of the union address was a giant campaign

  11. The inability for Obama to address the problems this nation faces was masked by his phenominal speaking capailities. His speech was very flawless to the uneducated listener. However, in reality, it was very broad and he was able to talk his way around the issues ssuch as schools, congress, and the economy by stating broad general plans and ideas. It was a campaign speech, a free televised speech that the majority of America would watch and wisely he used it to instill the nation with pride by reiterating the soldiers, and "his" accomplishments. People are mesmerized by his speaking capabilities and this is infact a drawback to him as president, because he can talk his way around anything.
